The Band Toto Asia
Toto was expanding its production facilities abroad and was doing business in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as an opportunity to grow for toilets and bidet seats, in contrast to its "base" markets in Japan and China.
Dhaniram Toto was recording Toto words to ensure the next generation could read the words. Many words were substituted with foreign words. For example dui, which is Bengali for verandah, was being used.
Origins
Incorporated in 1917, Toto's beginnings mirrored Japan's development. In the first half of its existence, the company made products to meet the demand for modern, contemporary urban housing. It was the first tunnel kiln in the country to continuously produce ceramics. It also pioneered automation to allow production control, allowing greater efficiency and consistency.
The company began expanding overseas in the late 1980s in order to take advantage of new markets and sales opportunities. It created the Cera Trading Company, importing and marketing other products of manufacturers to complement its own line of plumbing fittings and sanitary earthenware. This strategy increased sales and increased the company's market share.
In the 1990s Toto began to concentrate on research and development of water-related appliances. It also improved its distribution system to better serve the needs of its customers and boost profits. The company employed the same just-in-time approach to its supply chain management and sales program. This led to a higher level of customer satisfaction.

Toto continued to innovate toilet technology. Its latest toilet, for example, has a powerful tornado flush that is more eco friendly than traditional toilets. The company also makes use of recycled water in its manufacturing process and has a green procurement policy. Toto also manufactures faucets, bathtubs and hand dryers with higher energy efficiency than conventional models.
The first Toto museum opened in 2015. It has exhibitions on the most iconic products of Toto, their evolution, the group companies (all of which are ceramics) as well as the history of plumbing, and even bath units. In a separate gallery you can see Toto products that are sold across the world. The museum even includes a bathroom with a WASHLET toilet as well as other toilet-related innovations.
Before forming Toto the band, members of the band did session work for many musicians. Boz Scaggs album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich and guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather as well as drummers Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also played on records by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.
Discography
You would expect a group with a name like Asia to be a prog rock band however it's actually a fairly straight forward rock outfit. The group was formed as four-piece, and released two albums: 1979's self-titled debut and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. The group has a wide musical background, but their biggest success came in 1982 with Toto IV.
The album was a huge blockbuster, but it was not without its share of problems. Toto was able achieve this through the aid of the smash hit "Africa."
Toto's musical mastery is a result of their previous experience. Before joining the group, the members worked as session musicians for artists like Boz Scaggs. Steely Dan and Seals and Crofts. Their distinctive sound has become the norm for '80s pop, influencing many modern artists.
The album opens with a strong and pounding sound with songs like Running Out of Time and Unknown Soldier showcasing the bands ability to write amazing AOR songs that slowly build their hooks into your. The album also contains jazzier, slower tracks like The Little Things and Chinatown. The album concludes with Great Expectations. This song is a mix of folk and distorted AOR that could seem like a complete blunder, but works extremely well.
After Toto IV the band's fortunes began to decline. David Hungate left to concentrate on his solo career, and the band had to go through several drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the band in aftermath of drug-related charges. However, the group continued to perform as a trio with Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather.
Despite the turbulence, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation however, which was not as successful as IV. The band was able to release an album that topped the charts, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. This album marked the conclusion of the original Toto lineup and was the first album featuring the new singer, Simon Phillips.

Line-up
Turn Back, the band's third studio album is an ode to the classic sextet structure and it was a more consistent, more powerful effort with a harder edge. The more edgier sound of Turn Back reflected the maturation in the group. The drummer Bobby Kimball's increasing proficiency was evident in the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard playing was also sharper, more complex, and less derivative on earlier efforts.
After touring to promote their album, the band recorded an Amsterdam live show which was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set titled Falling In Between. The group released a new studio album a few months after and embarked on a tour around the world to help promote the album. In this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.
In 1998, Paich & Lukather began looking through old tapes and demos to find songs that had never been recorded prior to. It was completed in 2001 as a duo album called Then and Now. 메이저사이트 was the first album in the history of the band not to include a single song with the word "A" in the title, and it also contained one previously not released track, "Kari-Anne".
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial failure, and singer Williams suffered from a bad case of laryngitis which limited his singing capabilities. In addition, Hungate returned to Nashville and drummer Leland Sklar was replaced by Shem von Schroeck.
Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the original members of Asia were in England in the beginning of 2006 to discuss the possibility that the band could be reformed. This lineup, minus Howe who was working with Yes during that time, was renamed Toto XIV. They toured extensively.
In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The band also featured a guest appearance by singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
